 A friend from Syrian.

I窶冦 still so overwhelmed to the atmosphere of the classes although our faculty advisor told us not to be overwhelmed. In their words, everybody in the class including the American students would feel the same way, so we don窶冲 have to worry about the homework or discussions. However, unlike the last semester, there are few friends to rely on. I need to find them.
In some classes, I will study what I studied in Japan such as gender or sexuality, but on the other hand, in other classes, I will study more difficult issues such as religion or world politics. Even though I had studied it briefly in Japan, it窶冱 going to be pretty hard. Thinking of exam or essays, I feel so nervous.

I窶况e got to know one new friend from Syrian in the politics class. He is the first person from Arab I窶况e met in my life. He is 26 years old. He has graduated several colleges so far, and he is going to work after this semester in Syria as an international businessman. What was interesting was that he got angry with the professor窶冱 words about Syria, he told me after the class. The professor said that in Syria people still haven窶冲 got the freedom of the religion. In fact, it is a totally misunderstanding. Although most people believe in Islam, some people are Christian in Syrian. They have a freedom, they have several choices. But I didn窶冲 know that fact either. We tend to have particular biases against the Islamic country especially in terms of the freedom; we tend to think people don窶冲 have any free rights in those countries. But it was not true. We will get to know a lot about Islam in the course of this class from his words or homework. It would be an exceptional experience.
