 Troubles With Bush.

Today, I attended the 窶彿ssue dinner,窶 which is coordinated by the college, invite a famous speaker and listen to a small lecture, and then have a dinner with other attended students or faculties. Today was the second issue dinner for this year, the guest was Leonard Pitts who is known for as a Pulitzer Prize columnist, and the title was 窶徼roubles with Bush,窶 it sounds really humorous and amusing. Certainly, the lecture was really interesting.

He talked about the problem of his personality.
Anybody will surely make some mistakes, even he/she is the president, but the president Bush doesn窶冲 care about the mistakes, and go through it. Leonard Pitts emphasized that as for the president Bush the facts don窶冲 matter, it is inconvenient for him. The president ordered 窶彷ind the connection to Iraq and terror,窶 after the Sept. 11th terror, ignoring the reports. It should be "find the facts," but the connection. In addition, the president forgot about the weapons of mass destruction, and then, invaded to Iraq. According to Pitts's point of view, we didn窶冲 have to look the terror or the war in Afghanistan or Iraq. But, most people in the United States didn窶冲 understand it, and believed what the president said.
As you know in this example, the president doesn窶冲 care about the facts, and make things worse, his own opinion or will are in the first place. The prized columnist talked gently. His statement is very direct and honest, so sometimes it sounds a kind of exaggeration, but at the same time, it is so persuasive. In this respect, he is very smart person.

The topic changed to the Iraq. According to his analysis, there are two Iraqs. The one is good, peaceful image. President Bush said the situation in Iraq became much better, and he was optimistic to succeed. The president created this good image. But, on the other hand, the other Iraq is bad aspect. Still now, as many journalists reported, suicide bomber or insurgent attacks somewhere in Iraq everyday. It hardly believes that the U.S. Army had won the Iraq war. In addition, many people, both soldiers and civilians, died everyday. Bush insists always they are doing well, but the reality is unthinkably bad.

In his conclusion, Bush窶冱 inability to learn from his mistakes made the world worse, and Bush doesn窶冲 admit his mistakes he had made before. This had people in the United States paid over 1100 lives of American soldiers, he added. It is horrible.

After his lecture, I had a dinner with other attendants. I sat next to my professor for Asian Literature class, Mr. Rob Drexler, and talked about abortion (I don窶冲 remember the reason, is it related to his lecture?), especially I was interested in the different view for it between in the United States and in Japan. Abortion is very popular, well, not popular, it is incorrect, but many people are willing, I mean many people do not too much hesitate, to have an operation compared to the United States. Well, but this saying still lacks the correctness, but the statistical date shows that the abortion rate in Japan is much higher than other countries. It is 窶徙dd,窶 the professor said. For one thing, people in Japan are generally not religious. But in the United States, some specific political people think it as murder, I think it will be related to the religion. Anyway, the abortion is one of the most concerned issues also in this election.

This event gave me chances to ponder about many discussions. I was really convinced of his argue. Originally, I don窶冲 support president Bush, but I didn窶冲 have any effective argument to persuade Republican people. Today窶冱 lecture was, in that sense as well, indispensable experience.
