A Tutor for the African American History class.

Since I have been doing not well in some classes which I am taking in this semester, I asked the Academic Achievement Program office to assign me tutors for these classes. One of those classes is the African American History in the US class.

My tutor窶冱 name is Pete. His major is history, and the majority of his study is Asian history including Japan, Korea and China. I thought we could share some opinions on that kind of matters since I was also interested in history greatly.

We are going to meet twice a week regularly. During the each session, he makes sure if I do the homework. In case I have any questions on the homework, I can ask him. Then, it will be a good preparation for the next class.

I am now studying the plantation life in the antebellum south. (The term antebellum is the terminology oftentimes used in this class. Please look it up in your dictionary.) Studying itself is not difficult to understand, and I am willing to study all of the stuff, but I could not have devoted much time on this class; I didn窶冲 really do the homework for the classes.

So far, we have had a meeting twice. I am always surprised at his knowledge. He knows everything about African American History, even though this field is not his main concern. Most of the time of the past meetings was spent by his lecture of the American history or slave窶冱 story. That was just so great.

If I am asked to explain something which I am supposed to have learned so far, I think I cannot answer any questions as he does. I think it is partially because the different of the system of the classes or college. I might be good at some parts of the study that I have done, but not the whole parts, therefore, I cannot be a tutor. The professors in Japan just expect us to study voluntarily, but professors here kind of make us study, and some students who can afford to study more would be expected to be more voluntarily like my professor for this class gave me books. That means I am expected to study more. But I believe all the college students should be like him since I got a credit of that class. I should have, too. Considering it, he is a so great and smart student.

Thanks to his help, I started to try to spend more time to do the homework for this class, and I got a sense of better understanding of the topics. I am really eager to keep this pace, and I want to ask some questions that make him surprised some time.
