 My daily life.

Today, I would like to talk about my daily life, here at Coe.

Around 8am
Get up and change clothes, then, go to cafeteria to have a 窶徂ot窶 breakfast. If I got up late, I would miss the 窶徂ot窶 breakfast, and I should have a continental breakfast which is not hot like cereals or fruits. I always read newspaper with eating.

9:30am to 10:50am. 1st period class starts.
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are the oral presentation class. We study both presentation and grammar for TOEFL test. 9 students are there.
Tuesday and Thursday are the Asian Literature class. All the Waseda students and some American students take this class. We talk about cultural differences from each point of view. This class is credit course. Over 20 students are there.

11am to 11:50am. 2nd period class starts.
We have the Reading/Writing Workshop class everyday. This class is also credit course. We study the Multicultural Studies. About 10 students are there.

By the way, I usually say 窶徘eople in the United States窶 instead of the 窶徘eople in America窶. Do you know the reason or the differences?
When you say 窶廣merica窶, it is undoubtedly believed that it means the United States of America. But, in the world, there are some other American countries; Canada is located in the North America, Costa Rica is in the Central America, Argentina is a country that in the South America. As you see, there are lots of American countries. If you say people in America, first of all, you have to make sure which part of the America that people came from.
I learned this distinction from the textbook used in that class. The textbook is 窶彝ereading America窶. 窶彝ereading窶 means reconsidering. The United States has the biggest influence on the world. But at the same time, it also has several dark aspects such as discrimination against ethnic or race. We are going to reveal such unknown 窶廣merica窶 in this class. This is my specialty, so it is exciting.

Noon to 12:50pm. 3rd period class starts.
I have the Concert Choir class in this period with my friend Ken. As I wrote about this class before in this diary, it is a sort of hard class. There are about 40 or 50 people, because students are divided into the four parts, which are Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass. I am bass. We have a private lesson once a week.
When I sing songs in this class, I always think about my elder sister who had practiced the piano for a long time. She can read the music without any difficulties. Although I became getting used to singing in this class, I can窶冲 read the music, so it makes me feel nervous always. But if she would in the class, she would attend happily, and enjoy singing. It can be imagined easily. Most of the students taking this class are such kind of person as I see. It is surprising for me.

Around 1pm.
Have a lunch.

2pm to 2:50pm. 5th period class starts.
All the Waseda students, 19 students, have the seminar class. In this class, we are going to study about the learning style in the college class. Most classes are held in the small scale, so it will be different from the Japanese class inevitably. We learn how to use the power point effectively, how to have a discussion or something like that.

3pm to 3:50pm. 6th period class starts.
On Monday, I have the pronunciation class. This class is the smallest, there are only 8 students. Instructor corrects the pronunciation for each student.
I realized that I am not good at pronunciation in this class. Sometimes I can窶冲 make myself understood because my bad pronounce even when I talk to my roommate.
Today, we studied the differences of the 窶徭hip窶 and 窶徭ip. It sounds easy, but actually, it wasn窶冲 easy, it was hard, it was confusing. I know these differences in technically, but I couldn窶冲 make a distinction in practical at all. It needs more work.

On Wednesday, Ken and I have a private lesson for choir class. I wrote about that in this diary. Professor always teaches us so kindly.

After the class, I usually go to the library, and study until the dinner. But sometimes, especially when I feel tired, I would take a nap in my room.

5pm to 6 or 7pm
Dinner time.

After dinner, I go to the library to study, and keep studying there until the closing time, which is midnight. It is extremely helpful for doing the assignment. Japanese library should follow this example. Now, I am in the library. Some students, not a lot, are still studying.

1am
Usually go to bed after taking shower. Sometimes drink beer. The time depends on the amount of homework, day, and my feelings.

You might be astonished at my well-regulated life. The biggest difference from my life in Japan is the meal. I have definitely 3 meals everyday. It is amazing! Besides, all meals are for free (actually, it was paid in advance). But it is going to get fat. Someday, it may need to have some exercises...
