 Semeser has started.

Today was a first day of the fall semester, classes started.

I had 5 classes, it was so busy day. We were assigned homework in 3 classes.

It was a big difference, we seldom had any assignments at Waseda.
For one thing, it is because the difference of the number of the students. There are so many students at Waseda, so it is not easy to check every assignment for instructors. On the other hand, in this small college, 1 faculty has 12 students in the average. Every class takes place in a small scale, atmosphere is warm and familiar.
Class system also is different. At Coe, we ordinary have 3 or 4 classes every week on the same subject. On the contrary, at home we have a weekly schedule through one year. Most of the classes are to be held once a week. In addition, we are able to take many courses – over 10 courses compared to Coe.

Students in Japan are expected to study voluntary. We are supposed to learn 3 hours for each 90-minute class every week. But many people ignore this rule, I was also the one of them at Waseda.
As opposed to Japanese students, students in America compelled to study hard. Lots of homework is assigned in every class. They have to learn several hours inevitably.
It reminds me of my high school days. In those times, I had lots of homework. But to get into college is not compulsion, all of us came here at own will, this is an important difference. Therefore, students should work much harder.

Anyway, assignments that we had today are not so easy. However, I guess homework we are going to have through this term will be getting more difficult as the days pass. Today is just a beginning. We may have terrible homework someday.
But this was I had expected. I came here to study English. The goal is clear. We have to keep going.
